Going Beyond But!

Since the spring of 1986, Michael has been inspiring and educating across Canada and the United States of America with dynamic keynote addresses tailored to parents of children with special needs and adults living with disabilities to “Go Beyond” the prohibiting word “BUT!”

Michael is truly inspiring ❤ His speech is amazing and resonates with you. Book him! You won’t forget it! Thank you, Michael!

Mae Boudreau – Carson Graham Family of Schools Leader for Educational Assistants – North Vancouver School District #44

Michael was one of the first students with disabilities fully mainstreamed into the British Columbia public education system in 1968. While navigating the academic curriculum, he faced significant challenges, including holding a pencil, speaking effectively, and completing schoolwork. Beyond academics, he also had to manage basic bodily needs and functions, advocate for equal opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, and confront false stigmas that led to social exclusion.

As a young adult with Cerebral Palsy, he encountered significant barriers and challenges in his pursuit of meaningful employment. Society’s limited awareness, misconceptions, and acts of discrimination made the path forward difficult. However, fueled by determination, he transformed his adverse situation into an opportunity for growth.

The key benefits each audience will learn.

Empower audience members to see and understand adversity not as a challenge, obstacle, problem, or difficulty – but as an opportunity to learn, expand your awareness, and strengthen your resilience. When perspective shifts, adversity becomes the foundation upon which a person can build success, and unlimited future possibilities are created.

Support audience members in developing a self-leadership mindset, by educating them to adopt and apply a Positive Rebel’s frame of mind – enabling them to move beyond their own negative thoughts, ideas of limitations, false conditioning, and self-imposed fears.

Speech Description

Have you ever noticed how a great idea to support a child with special needs is often met with some form of prohibiting or restricting ‘BUT!

Drawing on his “Can Do Attitude,” Michael brings first-hand experiences, actionable advice, and proven strategies to help you and your child overcome the limitations of “But.” With his “Infectious Smile,” Michael explains “Why” and provides insights on “How” to empower both your         child and yourself by:

      * Envisioning the future, while living today.                                                         * Moving beyond “But” by embracing the possibilities of “What if…”.             * Turning today’s adversities into stepping stones for uncovering                      unlimited possibilities.                                                                                         * Unlocking unforeseen potential through bold and creative thinking.             * Developing a “Self-Advocate-Preneur” game plan to get from the                   here and now to then and later.
